I'm curious as to why there are no towns in Ontario with the Cittaslow designation, while there are two in BC.
Anyone have an idea?

Because no others towns have applied, passed the assessment test, and paid the annual fee?

katzpaw,

I'm sure that is true, My question is, with all the small towns in SW Ontario, why has none applied? Surely there are towns that would welcome the life style appeal, not to mention tourist appeal, of belonging to a Timmy's etc-free zone?

Probably because people for the most part arent into a slower pace of life, everyone wants to go as fast as they can,get stuff done as quick as possible,a Timmies free zone? and i presume a fast food free in general zone?not feasible as most people just want to go faster in every way.
While the goals may please a few.in places like Cowichan Bay in BC where the community fits this life style perfectly, its not going to be a widespread movement,, people just dont have time for it...
While the main aims/goals are on the surface admirable the way to achieving them gets a bit ......far out.

The main aims of the movement are:
  • making life better for everyone living in an urban environment
  • improving the quality of life in the cities
  • resisting the homogenization and globalization of towns around the globe
  • protecting the environment
  • promoting cultural diversity and uniqueness of individual cities
  • provide inspiration for a healthier lifestyle
