We're not New York, Chicago or even Portland. We're just a kind of Isolated Canadian city that the rest of the world doesn't give a care to. Why a that??
I meant **why is**. Sorry the autocorrect

Pretty sure Toronto is more well-known that Portland OR...
The rest of the world doesn't care much about Chicago either.
There are many great cities in the world, to be one of those most people care is extremely difficult - you either need to have extremely large and powerful - such as the case of London, New York, Tokyo, or have your very unique identity - such as Venice or Prague.
Toronto is a wealthy, well functioning city. However it is far from being an world premier city, or possess any unique character. Most people outside Canada doesn't care about it that much, but there is nothing wrong with that. Actually for a country the size of Canada, we are doing pretty good to have cities with reputation like Toronto and Montreal.
On the other hand, being at the top of the world isn't necessarily a good thing. Whoever have lived in London, NYC and Tokyo knows that quality of life there isn't great unless you are quite wealthy. How does fame of a city benefit average citizens? Some bragging rights, that's about it.
In my experience, I have found (1) Montreal and (2) Toronto to have pretty good name recognition in several parts of the world.
In regards to (2) Toronto, I've been to some remote parts of the world, and you'd be surprised how many people are able to reference the Toronto Raptors and how many people have cousins, relatives, or children who study or have studied at York, UofT, Humber College, etc. etc. Nothing major, but delightfully surprising.
I generally find Montreal and Toronto are pretty even in terms of overall international renown.
In some parts of the world like francophone countries Montreal is more well-known and *the* big city in Canada for them, whereas in others like India it's Toronto by a wide margin and Vancouver is probably the second Canadian city people know, not Montreal.
Keep in mind that Toronto is a comparatively small city by world standards.
PS: this is why I hate using my smartphone to post comments
What world standards? Who is setting these standards?
I dont see how anyone can classify Toronto is a "small city". It makes no sense!
