So I need a new vehicle soon and am attracted to the Toyota Tacomas. Anyword on how they are?? Looking possibly at a simple one access cab 4X4 5speed...
Do they run well?
Are they reliable?
How are they on gas?
Should I get new or used?
Any and all help is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I bought my tacoma 4x4 back in 1980 and it is still running today. I thought I would upgrade and by a 08 Ford F150 Limited model about 9 months ago. Nice new model with all the extra crap you dont need. I ended up hating the ford so it sits in the garage for now. I continue to drive the tacoma everywhere.
Mine is only a 4 cycl but its bullet proof and keeps on running. I have like 265000 miles on it.
I should have got a new tacoma when i bought a new truck. Now the ford isnt worth much to even trade it in. New or used you wont be dissappointed.
we've only owned Toyota trucks from the smallest to the biggest and we've loved them all. They last forever and never had any problems. A friend of ours has an old 80's Tacoma and it's got over 200,000 miles and still going and he doesn't take very good care of his trucks. Another thing is they hold their value very well.
my grandpa uses his tacoma(late 90s model) as a work truck doing 50-150 miles per day since he bought it brand new years ago. still runs great with just regular maintenance. id suggest it as a light truck over any other available light truck on the market
The Tacomas were introduced as the 1996 model. I personnally would go for the 2001 to 2004 models. the 3.4l V6 and the 2.7l 4cyl are both excellent. people I know on various Toyota forums get about 18 to 20mpg with the V6 and 20 to 22mpg with the V4. The newer models introduced in 2005 get 16 to 18mpg(4X4) but they are much more powerful motors. 183 hp to 265 hp for the 4.0. I would try to test drive a newer generation and a previous generation one and then decide.
Yeah, basically. I prefer the mid 80s to early 90s Toyota's myself. Seems the old 22R and 22RE engines lasted alot longer, some showing 500K miles and more w/o any repairs.
