Nephew is getting married in Beaufort SC in June, I almost passed out when I priced air fare to Savanah...$538.00 RT PP thats over $1000
Soooo we may decide to drive but hubby does not want to drive straight through from NJ to SC in one day nor do I truth be told.
I'm mapping out half way points more or less and can not decide which place for a stop over..Pertersburg VA, Roanoke Rapids NC or Rocky Mount NC...I think Rocky Mount may be pushing it...where would any of you stop?
Going to keep checking fare as wedding is not til June but we may end up driving...
For what it's worth, we drove from Brooklyn to Kitty Hawk NC in one day and we weren't pushing it. Have a relaxing day or two on the Outer Banks before the nuptuals.
I would stop in Emporia, VA. There's a newer Hampton Inn there.
That said, it's only a 12 hour drive, and with both of you sharing, it won't be too much. If you leave at 5:00 am you'll miss the worst of the traffic (you'll be in DE on I-95 during the worst of it and that road keeps moving even during rush hour). You'd be in Beaufort in time for dinner.

Ha..oh no I do not drive with hubbie as a passenger he will do nothing but bit*h about my driving...lol
I would have to knock him unconscious first
Keep going until you are tired of driving. Then pull off at a well-marked exit with a half a dozen motels and check into one. Order a pizza, watch a movie on HBO, and go to sleep. Get up the next day have a Grand Slam breakfast at Dennys, and drive the rest of the way. Adjust recipe according to taste.
What part of NJ are you in? You can also fly from Atlantic City, NJ (or Phila) airport to Myrtle Beach on Spirit Air for under $70 pp each way. (Myrtle Beach is only 3 hours away)
