It is ridiculous to issue an alert on all of Europe. Maybe US State department does not know that Europe is a continent with a population of 500 million, as far as I remember. I am sure if Americans travel to Iceland, Spain/Portugal, Check Republic, European parts of Russia, Finland, Norway they would be very safe. Just a handful of countries have some danger...

I travel to Europe AND Germany with absolutely NO problems. Is that your first travel overseas?
Or stay in the US and get mugged walking on the streets of some major cities, drive in rush hour traffic and get killed by a drunk driver, fall down an open elevator shaft, eat contaminated food at a major chain restaurant, or just don’t worry about it. Live your life as if it was the only one you have and enjoy it to the fullest each day.
Here's my tip. I worked on an airline terminal project. The person in charge of airport security for the owner told me to stay away from the big plate-glass window walls in airports. If there is a blast, the glass just shreds anyone nearby. This also happened at the west entrance to One World Trade Center. People were decapitated by the glass when the fireball shot through the lobby.
She said this matter-of-factly, complaining a bit that airports should no longer have those glass walls for security reasons, but owners know patrons like the views.
So, find a nice a little corner while waiting for your flight.
One needs always to aware there surroundings but one can't completely avoid crowded areas when traveling. Danger is around us always even if one doesn't travel to Europe.
