Do overseas passenger ships (not for cruises) still exist?

That was how I felt after researching this a few years back. It just seemed like too much trouble, although very interesting. I don't plan on taking a ship any time soon.

I will. I had a thread last year about our first cruise which we enjoyed a lot, we just didn't enjoy the destination too much.
