Karon Grieve had not just the seat next to her empty on her trip from Glasgow to the Greek island of Crete—and not even just both seats next to her. Every other seat on the Jet2 plane was empty, meaning there were 188 empty seats, the BBC reports.
I had something similar happen to me over 10 years ago. It was a Southwest Flight from Detroit to Indianapolis that was supposed to go on to Chicago. The flight to Indianapolis was delayed so they ended up putting the passengers that were headed to Chicago on a direct flight and there was only myself and another passenger heading to Indianapolis. We were outnumbered by the crew and it was pretty fun. I remember getting a whole bag of bags of pretzels to snack on for the short flight
I've had a few of these. Once I was the last flight in to Orlando before the airport closed prior to a hurricane. Me and a handful of crazies that were actually heading INTO (not out of) a hurricane zone.
In the few weeks before Eastern Airlines phased itself out I was on my last hop from Atlanta to Jacksonville Florida. I was on a free ticket had using my mileage and we had only one other woman on the plane with me. The stewardess asked us to move up to first class for their convinieance. All I could think about was the fact that there was only one paying customer on the entire plane.
Definitely my once in a lifetime flight experience.............
Back in 1971, I flew from London to New York on a 747 where the crew outnumbered the passengers. All seven of us were ushered up to first class. It was my next-to-last leg of a 35-hour trip with a four-month-old and I was exhausted. The attendants put me to bed upstairs and babysat while I slept for three hours. Apparently the baby had spent part of the flight up with the pilots because I had the Polaroid as evidence. I always told her no wonder she went to work for the airlines......who else was flying a 747 at four months?
