We spent two weeks in Alaska and just got back. We did one week on land and the second on a cruise. It was so wonderful. I'm so glad we did it that way. We were able to see so much.
We were at McKinley for two nights and Daneli Park for two nights. We took a nine hour train ride and then got on the ship. The Princess cruise ship went to Glacier Bay, Skagway, Juneau and Ketchekan. I love being able to have a day at each town to explore.
Eight of us went and we didn't plan any trips until we got there. We hiked with a guide one day for about seven miles around a lake. We rented a little Honda Ruskus and went into the park and I took a three hour train ride in Skagway.
The trip was just as great as I imagined. From the ship you could see whales. We saw Grizzley bears, black bears, eagles, Dall Sheep, Mountain Goats, Wolves and moose. It was a wonderful, wonderful trip.

Sounds like a great trip. The next time that I head to Alaska, I want to go via the Alaska Coastal Ferry and get into some of the smaller towns that the large cruise ships cannot reach.

I have seen some inside passage trips for under $100/day this year - what a steal.

Sounds fantastic! I hope to do the same one year. I would be afraid I would get there and not want to come back.

Sounds great but how was the weather? My sister and brother in law went a couple of years ago (Princess cruise) and loved it. They took a helicopter excursion and were so impressed with the size and color of the glacier where they landed.

I went on the NCL pearl in May to Alaska. We went to same ports are the op. I would have loved to do the land, Cruise Tour Package, but can't get away that long. We took the Train in Skagway, and the scenery was breathtaking.
e ent to the drive to glacier in Juneau, and toured Juneau. In Ketchekan we did a Duck Tour, which was a lot of fun.
I would highly recommend a cruise to Alaska.

When I went in May, Weather was 65, and sunny everyday. We really had a lovely week, NO RAIN, There was also no rain in Seattle, and temp. was in the 80s.
