We are following this trial live and when we miss it we can watch the entire courtroom saga on YouTube.
The hospital has hardly any defense and from reading the comments, the plaintiffs are backed by almost everyone who are watching the trial.
Not just the people who watched the Netflix docu and were shocked what went down.
I posted this under true crime as even though this is a civil case we now hear about sexual related issues with Catharine Bedy the social worker which will most likely be another issue down the road.
Maya’s mom committed suicide and this family deserves all the justice in the world.
I watched Taking Care of Maya and your post triggered me to check out YouTube to see how things were progressing with this case. I was skimming through some of the trial and came across the physical therapist who treated Maya at Tampa General. She is my son-in-law's sister and I had no idea she was involved in her care. Thank you for the heads up as this is most interesting indeed!
Been watching a lot of the trial. Has a long way to go and the defense has a tough road ahead. Thanks for making a thread.
St John's Hospital is in Pinellas county, which uses a private firm, Suncoast, for it's child protection services. More children are removed from their homes in Pinellas county than any other county in FL. Dr Sally Smith, medical director at the time, says it's because they are more thorough in their work.
Smith put Maya in state custody while Maya was hospitalized. The hospital refused to discharge Maya to her parents/family for that reason. This is the heart of the case. But the hospital also refused to accept a diagnosis of CRPS even though they treated Maya for that condition.
I've been watching it live. I watch it on Law&Crime TV YouTube channel and participate in the chat at least part of each day.
I don't think the family should be awarded anywhere near $200 million. I do think the hospital bears some responsibility in the pressure Beata felt due to them instigated child abuse inquiries.
I think the defense is just doing its best to lessen the damages. I really wish Beata hadn't taken her own life!
What a mess she left
