What's PlayOn? | PlayOn

I found mentions of this service in other threads, but no thread dedicated to it. If you use PlayOn, what's your experience with it? I was just looking over their site. At first I was excited because it said they carried Food Network and NickToons, channels we've missed since dropping cable. But, a little more investigation shows you can access shows those networks have chosen to stream on their websites, and not the actual channels! Food Network has more stuff online than they used to, but really, still not very much.

I can see the value of the service, though - I missed Downton Abbey on Sunday, and watched that on the PBS site, and I watch Project Runway on the Lifetime site... it would be nice to have those online shows in one place, and watch them on the TV without having to hook up the computer to it! eta: Ooh, and I could watch the "web only" stuff on HuluPlus...

I'm interested in hearing from folks who use PlayOn (or have used it) - experiences, pros, cons, etc.

I've been using PlayOn for close to a couple of years now. The scripts that access that programming are mostly written by other users who are actually seeking to enhance their own viewing pleasure. They share their work simply because that's the way they are. There are a few scripts with a small donation for a password. I find that these are very useful scripts. Especially if I miss a show or even want to go back and view a season. Those scripts now are far better than they were a couple of years ago.

You might find the forum or link where you can actually request that someone write a script that will access programming you want. There is also tutorials that can help you write your own scripts.
