Well first of all, this is NOT my area of expertise, so trying to find someone who can answer a basic question:
I want to hook up my tv (just moved) but do NOT want cable/dish/1000 stations etc., just basic local tv is ok.
Apparently I need a converter box, but where do I buy this? And do I need any tools etc to install it? Is the picture going to be decent?
Thanks for any info~

If you do not own an HD TV you will indeed need to have a converter box, since all televised broadcasts converted to digital signals as of June 12, 2009.
Which raises the question, how have you been looking at TV since then?
Yes, I had cable.....just do not wish to continue....and I watch a lot of programs/ movies on internet now.
Thanks for the links~

You're welcome.
I like you. I won't pay for 300 channels of nothing to get 8 or 10 that I like. I watch more programs on-line than I do on TV. But having said that, I did invest in a digital TV so I ditched the converter box but I hasten to add that there still isn't a lot of programing that is being shot in HD so I don't think that you need to rush out and buy an HD TV if you are satisfied with your present set.
A friend of mine just uses the outside antenna for his reception. He can get channels I don't with my FIOS! He does not get many but the reception is just as good and clear as my FIOS! I couldn't believe my eyes! No converter box required and it's an HD tv. If you are not used to watching HD, I don't think it matters. Just plugged it in, put the antenna on and voila! Free tv once again. Hope this helps.
