Anyone watch this recent series on History Channel? I loved it and can't wait for the second season. Seeing about how our borders were drawn is the best history lesson I've had in a while. Fascinating stuff!
I stumbled upon this show and saw some of the episodes. I think the shows are great and very informative.
The subject of history really bored me in school and I don't think I learned very much. I don't know if it is the show itself or because I am older but the show really kept my interest.
While I was watching I was thinking they should take the whole series and use it as a teaching tool in schools. I believe it would hold the kids attention a lot more then just hearing it from a teacher.
Yes, it's great. It was spun out of a two-hour program they did by the same name. I love to see fun stories that we've always heard about but didn't know full details like the Hatfield's & McCoy's or why the Kansas/Missouri football game is so intense! Fun show. Can't wait for more!
I admit that I want his job, too. He drives around the country, meets people, gets to be silly and ask goofy things, gets to taste the local barbeque (the poor guy had to sample Texas, Kansas City, and Carolina Barbeque in the episode about regional barbeque techniques).
History is an under-taught subject in this country and unfortunately so many kids think it's a boring topic. "How the States Got Their Shapes" is an example of how history can be fun, and how many interesting and sometimes amazing things there are to learn about the places all around us that we never learned about in school.
I've seen a handful of the episodes and really enjoyed them. For those who haven't watched it, it topics go beyond just the shape of the states to include cultural customs, language differences, and much much more. Pretty interesting stuff!
