I loved Mary Shannon on In Plain Sight, Olivia Benson on L&O SVU, and Grace Hanadarko on Saving Grace.

Seeing how I really like those character types, what would you recommend I watch next? TV or Movies or both.

JLo as Karen Sisco in the movie Out of Sight. There was a short-lived TV series called Karen Sisco with Carla Gugino in the lead role.

NYTom beat me to it. I was going to say Pepper Anderson from Police Woman. I'll throw in Maria Bello as Jane Timing from Prime Suspect 2 years ago. Her character never wore anything that would be considered sexy but I've liked Maria since the short lived Mr. & Mrs. Smith from back in the 90s

American shows ? Here's one I liked, though it was short-lived (only one season), Under Suspicion starring Karen Silas & Seymour Cassel.
Under Suspicion (TV series) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Also, Bones & The Closer ?

UK series w/strong female leads-
Blue Murder, Murder in Suburbia, Scott & Bailey, Prime Suspect UK (w/Helen Mirren).

Katherine Eyles from Law & Order: CI was a perfect match for Vincent d'Onofrio.

I second The Closer, Saving Grace, In Plain Sight and Rizzoli & Isles.

Wow. Under Suspicion. You went way back on that one. Like Prime Suspect I lived it. Shame it only lasted 1 year and ended with Phil getting shot and we were left hanging, not knowing if she survived or not. I was beyond PO'd.

I'll add another blast from the past. ABC's short lived Lady Blue
