I love this show. What city does it take place?

Notice how everyone wants to unload their "treasure" for cash to hit the casinos.

It's in Las Vegas.

So in October of 2009, while in Vegas for a friend's wedding, I went there.

Lo and behold, they were taping that day! The one about the ship's bell from Indonesia. They roped off the area and made sure no one would walk behind the taping scene. That place is really tiny, so we were all squished into two sides.

Turns out there's a lot of set-up behind the articles. People are not just walking in with things. And the 'expert' that always 'shows up later' was right there and pretended to walk in the front door...the conversation was rehearsed...

Eh, it's still a fun show.

I love Pawn Stars! I call it "Antiques Roadshow, with cursing."

I like the show, but darn, I wish those dudes would take a diet, especially poor Chumly, who is headed for real health problems.

I believe he spells it "ChumLee"

Yeah, it is pretty sad when none of them can fit into a small car or boat they are trying to buy.

I like the show, but I take it that it is very dramaticized. They probably know their stuff, so experts are called in just to add to the show. They also wouldn't be letting someone know an item they only want $100 for is really worth $5000 even if they'll offer $1000.

I just wish they treated Chumlee with a little more respect. Their putdowns of him is offputting.
