With the success of The Sound of Music, the Wiz and Grease, there will undoubtedly be more musicals broadcast on live TV. (OK, The Sound of Music wasn't a critical success, but it did huge ratings)

I heard there may be a Rocky Horror Picture Show musical?

What other famous movies/musicals would be good candidates?

1) West Side Story
2) since we had The Wiz, maybe The Wizard of Oz as well?
3) Little Shop of Horrors?
4) Chicago
5) Into the Woods
6) 9 to 5

It might be too soon for 4 and 5?

While Wicked is still selling out on Broadway after 12 years, would it be viable as a TV musical without a popular movie in its history?

Other options? The King and I? Fiddler on the Roof? Oklahoma? Singin' in the Rain? Maybe too dated? Or, not?

Yes, it will air in the fall.

I would love for them to do more of the older classics. NBC was originally going to do the Music Man before they switched to the Wiz. Oklahoma and Singin in the Rain are two of my favorites.

PAINT YOUR WAGON, starring J.K. Simmons.

And I'm still hoping for a PLANET OF THE APES musical. "Oh my gosh, I was wrong! It was Earth all along!"

If the networks are trying to do family friendly shows, stuff like Chicago, Rent, and Cabaret will be nixed quickly.

They have Rocky Horror coming up in the fall - not exactly family friendly

ABC needs to get on the bandwagon and start doing the Disney shows (since they're in the same family). I'm not sure Lion King would translate well (the puppets are waaaay more impressive in person walking down the aisle than on TV), but Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Aladdin ... any of them would probably pull in a huge audience. Not so sure about Newsies.

A movie version is scheduled to be released some time this year, maybe.

My choices for live TV:

"An American in Paris"
"Carousel"
"Cinderella"

Wicked whether the book or the musical has been rumored since 2011/2. That article is the latest I heard if it
