We currently have Netflix and love the programing. Several friends of ours were talking about what they were watching on Amazon, and it also sounded great.
We don't buy enough from Amazon to rationalize Amazon Prime, but if their programing is as good (or better than Netflix) we will sign up.
I realize money is money but for an extra $10/mo (if you dont want to pay for the year up front) why not have both and oh by the way reap the shipping benefits of Prime?
I have both. I never use Amazon. When Netflix doesn't have what I'm looking for, Amazon never has it either. I don't know if I've ever used streaming with Amazon. (Obviously I'm in it for the free shipping, lol.)
We pay for Amazon Prime and also Netflix. They both have their good and bad.
Netflix is good with new releases and variety. Amazon you do pay for more but there are some movies that you get for free with Prime.
If I could get the courage and cut the cord with cable, I would totally go with an Amazon Fire stick that is unlocked. But I'm not brave enough yet haha.
We have both and go back and forth with which we use more for viewing. One "downside/upside?" to Amazon streaming is many shows are NOT included with Prime but you can pay extra to watch them. If you only want to watch what is "free" with your $99 a year fee then you have to pay attention. If you are inclined to pay extra for some things then that is a plus. With Netflix if its there its included.
I first got Amazon as a gift and never thought I would use it for buying things. Now I use it all the time. With 5, soon to be 7 grand-kids i can buy birthday and Christmas presents from my own home and have them delivered to my house, or their house in 2 days at no additional cost. I think I renewed my subscription twice before I even used the streaming option.
I prefer Netflix. I have Amazon, but only because I have Prime for shipping. I wouldn't pay extra for it though. Most of my streaming is done either on Hulu or Netflix.
NETFLIX. Better selection of movies. Better original programming.
AmazonPrime occasionally has some good movies to watch. Usually a dozen or so per month. The rest you either have to pay extra for, or it is really bottom of the barrel dreck.
Still Amazon does have some original programming that is really, really good, like MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE and SNEAKY PETE.

Do tell! What's an unlocked firestick? I have an idea....
To the OP, Netflix. I have both but rarely watch amazon for the reasons the others have stated. I have prime for the shipping so the streaming is a bonus I'd never actually pay for by itself. Netflix is better is almost every way, ie. the stream, the interface, selection, and all included.
