I'm spoiled by the original.
I could not appreciate this show.
Hell, I'm no baker but some of those contestants and their desserts......
How the heck did they qualify for that show????

^ Yes. It's just not the same without Paul, Mel & Sue And the british accents.. And the fancy English desserts.. ( Seriously? - christmas cookies and a gingerbread house?! ) I can't believe I managed to watch the whole thing... Ugh.
I liked it but Nia and Ian try a bit too hard. They're not as bad as Jeff Foxworthy though. I don't care about the Britishness of GBBO however. I care most about the contestants and what they bake the most.

I liked it! The thing is, think about what you bake at home and then being given a time constraint to do it. All bets are off! Rushing to get done results in many mistakes. I felt bad for the guy whose gingerbread roof caved in but it was funny to see! Had to happen to someone.
I like Johnny, too. I was underwhelmed by the baking, though, and it left me thinking how bad the ones who didn't make the final cut must have been.
But nothing was "dumbed down." There might be those who think that British + bad teeth somehow equals excellence, but I'm not one of them. BTW, the American baking show a couple of summers ago was very entertaining with much better creations. The United States is hardly lacking for good bakers, either professional or amateur.
