Did superheroes, zombies, and medieval fantasy simply became more "fresh" and "exciting"? Were we too entranced by "Game of Thrones" to watch anything else? I say that as someone who is still impressed by GOT's writing and acting.

Or have we become too cynical to dream of a better future?

I remember a speech by "Neil Degrasse Tyson" circulating around the internet during the 2012 time period.

And many sci fi fans were quite vocal about it.

Hopefully society will get excited for science, technology, and the future again leading to the production of a big sci fi show.

Or would an "Astronaut Soap Opera" have a better chance of appealing to the "mainstream"? Do mainstream TV audiences still consider stuff like "aliens" and "lasers" as things that are childish?

The Expanse was the only good one since 2010s.

Sci Fi channel has done goofed. I dont even know what they are airing now.

That new Katee Sackhoff show on Netflix, Another Life or something is horrible.

Altered Carbon was good, but Netflix killed it off. I like Dark Matter, but was killed off too.

I think it's just phases. Everything used to be westerns. In some order: detectives, spies, sitcoms, sci-fi.

I rather miss the quality sci-fi. ok maybe I should say I miss the tacky sci-fi. Gotta love the giant ants, dinosaurs coming back to life, and of course the nasty ol' aliens.

I loved DARK MATTER! Android was my fave character

Other good shows include:

The 4400
Fringe
Supernatural

Star Trek and Star Wars seem to be doing just fine with their shows.

The Mandalorian is the best Star Wars to come out since A New Hope.

I don't think audiences have lost interest. But there hasn't been a truly GREAT science fiction TV show in as long as I can remember --- at least not one with mass appeal.

The first season of WESTWORLD was pretty decent, but it has crashed and burned since then.

BEFOREIGNERS is a lot of fun, though I certainly don't think a show like that is for everyone.

And hey, RESIDENT ALIEN is a blast.

I think truth has become stranger than fiction. Beat that, if you have the imagination. Also, anyone remember the Jetsons? George complained those 3 hour work days were killing him and they all flew around in magical inventions that made their lives easier. The real future seems a lot bleaker and to put your imagination out into the future is just too scary and depressing. Heck, the present is scary and depressing. Technology does nothing but cost money and complicate things, so that exciting sci-fi theme has been played out.

I never was into all those X Files, Journeyman, Jericho. The only one I could ever watch was Star Trek Next Generation.

They are often expensive to produce and unfortunately superhero stuff has sucked up a lot of the oxygen.
