Beverly Hills 90210 - Shannen Doherty versus everyone

Castle - Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic. The prevailing rumor is that she was acting like a diva and he tried first nicely to reign her in and then it got ugly toward the end.

The co-workers at the plastic factory, then the hair salon, the lunch counter, etc, etc.
Producers (even moreso writers) changed a lot because Roseanne fired everyone who crossed her

Designing Women: Delta Burke had issues with the creators/producers of the series, which played out as the producers trying to marginalize DB's breakout character, Suzanne, and Burke ticking off the cast by showing up late (or not showing at all) for filming days. It caused everyone to choose sides. Burke left, and the show never recovered.

Valerie: Valerie Harper versus the producers and NBC. I believe she wanted more money, perhaps more script input or something along those lines, and the network fired her--from a show named after her! Valerie's Family, followed by The Hogan Family, limped along a bit longer while Harper went to court with the producers.

The Young and the Restless: So many! 1. Many years ago, Brenda Dickson (Jill) got really full of herself because her character was very popular. Her diva behavior BTS got her fired, and she started bad-mouthing Bill Bell (the writer/creator/producer of Y&R) in the press. She still moans about it to this day, since her acting career basically ended with her firing. 2. Peter Bergman and Eric Braeden play bitter enemies Jack and Victor onscreen, and many years ago those feelings spilled over into a physical fight BTS (in a dressing room, I believe). They didn't get fired, but it caused a lot of gossip and people still talk about it. 3. Victoria Rowell and Michelle Stafford played bitter enemies Drucilla and Phyllis onscreen, and apparently they didn't like each other much offscreen, either. Rumor has it Stafford actually spat on Rowell in an argument scene, an unscripted "acting choice". Rowell often criticized the writers for various things, such as not making her character more prominent, and ultimately quit. Later, she sued the show in an attempt to make them hire her back (!?!) but the suit was dismissed.

From the way-way-way back machine, actress Virginia Dwyer had played matriarch Mary Matthews on Another World for about a decade. She refused to memorize her lines and deliver them as written; she'd ad-lib or skip parts of the scene, driving her scene partners insane, and making the Head Writer furious. When AW was expanded to an hour-long show in 1975, the executive producer fired her, saying that if she couldn't memorize lines for a half-hour show, she'd never be able to keep up on an hour-long program. So "Mary" had a heart attack and dropped dead.

Irna Phillips, the show-runner for As The World Turns learned that the actress who played Liz Talbot Stewart on "her" show was also appearing in a play at night where the actress appeared topless. When the actress pointed out that she could do whatever she wanted outside of the soap, Phillips responded by having Liz Stewart die by falling "up" the stairs (tripping in the hem of her nightgown). Phillips then killed off Liz's husband Dan, and another relative of Liz's out of spite. The only character who survived Phillips's wrath was Emily, Dan and Liz's toddler daughter.

There were a lot of rumors regarding Castle. Some have said that most of the cast and crew did not like Nathan that much and he created a lot of issues behind the scenes. It didn't help that the show had falling ratings and in order to cut production costs in an effort to have a 9th season, they were going to let Katic walk which probably added fuel to the fire.

We'll never know for sure but he has never had a reputation for being difficult and pretty much the minute "Castle" ended he was picked up for another ABC Studios show run by the former "Castle" showrunner. One would think if he were the problem they wouldnt be so quick to work with him again.

I believe the conflict between Nathan and Fillon was more due to conflicting personalities. Stana is said to be a pretty serious actress and did not like Nathan's layed back approach to acting. The show, like Fillon's previous show "Firefly" worked in part because of the delicate balance between comedy, romance and drama. However, if the two leads had different ideas about how those facets of the show should be balanced, it could easily cause conflict.

There was a definite falling-out between the leads in Laverne and Shirley, though others might be able to relate more than what I remember it being, which was Cindy Williams (Shirley) feeling "frozen out" since Penny Marshall (Laverne) was related to the show-runner and felt that Marshall got preferential treatment. The result--Williams leaving and the show being just about Laverne--was one of the more ridiculous attempts at keeping a once-successful show afloat, since the "Shirley" part was no longer around. It was like Laurel without Hardy.

Oh, and I have to correct a minor detail in my earlier post

Actually, the daughter was Betsy Stewart, who grew up to be played by Meg Ryan!

I think you mean Nathan and Stana. Or Fillion and Katic.

Ah yes. How could we have gone this far without mentioning that. Ever see the opening credits for season 8? A minute 15 intro for credits for 2 people.

Even Michael McKeon was out by this time, though that was just because of the filming of Spinal Tap if I recall.

I do have to give them credit for how they "worked around" the iconic start of the opening credits (where L&S sing their little nonsense song while marching down the sidewalk). Some neighborhood children are singing the song as they pass Laverne on the sidewalk, and Laverne gives them a knowing look of admiration.
