I dropped cable and went to NetFlix only. How bad are commercials getting these days? Brighthouse advertises for advertising on Brighthouse - commercials for commercials! And the "bundling" - don't they understand only $30 for a phone in one simple cable bill is still a waste of money when we have cell phones?

Am I alone?

That's why I love the DVR. Skip through the commercials.

Netflix doesn't carry anything recent. They are about 3-4 months behind on their "new releases". We utilize our DVR a lot, but we get things from Netflix too. We've been watching Love Boat, Fantasy Island and Chips lately.

What? Netflix gets all the new releases. Has it changed in the last 4 months or something?

I rarely watch anything that is not recorded on DVR anymore. Truthfully, I probably could drop cable and watch everything online.

I only have high speed cable internet. I gave up on Cable TV a long time ago but watch TCM channel at my Mom's sometimes. Sometimes I check out DVDs or videos from the library for free. Maybe it's my passive-aggressive move against TV, I just ignore it. . .

They get DVDs the same date they are released for sale in stores or any other rental place.

For example, Nick and Norah's place list was released last Tuesday and I got a copy from Netflix last Wednesday.

We haven't found that to be the case. They have movies at our local video store that won't be on Netflix for several months. I'll have to post what they are after my next trip to the video store.

I'd be interested to know because I go on there once a week and add new releases that I want to see and I have never found one that wasnt available. You may have to wait for it if it is popular but they always have it.

The only reason I've kept DISH is that I'm a sports fan and while a lot of religious programming is garbage, there are a select few things I enjoy watching on a couple of those networks as well. But the big thing as another poster mentioned is the DVR, it is huge to be able to condense an hour-long show into 40 minutes, and I even use it sometimes for when I'm watching a game (especially college basketball w/the ridiculous timeouts every 4 minutes of playing time) where say the game starts at 7, I'll tape it, start from the beginning around 7:30 or 7:45, and by the 4th quarter I've caught up by skipping through all the timeouts and halftime. It is a nice benefit and time-saver.
