I saw advertisements for The Politician yesterday and am currently watching the first episode.
It’s a little too early to judge the show I think, but it really seems like it’s from the Netflix mold. The acting, characters, humor, and drama is really meant for younger people.
I haven’t heard of the actor who plays the lead character, Ben Platt, but his father is a musical theater producer. This might have influenced Platt's acting as it really seems theatric and over-the-top.

Ben Platt is a Tony and Grammy winner for his role in Dear Evan Hansen. Very famous among theater-nerds like myself.
It’s such a bingable series, but I’m not sure that I actually like it all that much. It really has too many areas of conflicts, and none of the characters are particularly likable.
I’m interested in how the rest of the season unfolds. I wonder if it will head in a totally different direction than what the viewer thinks it will.

I watched a couple episodes. Great cast but the plot is strange and disjointed. I can’t say I am hooked. May not even finish it. Jay
I've watched the whole season. I liked the show. The last two episodes take the show into a very different direction.
I will say many of the actors look too old to be playing high school students; especially the actor playing Peyton--he looks like he's in his late 20's.
Although I liked it, I thought it was (by design) a bit too jumpy and disjointed. There were almost two climaxes. The ending had me hooked on the prospects of season two.
I would recommend that if you don’t like the first couple of episodes to still try and watch the whole season because you might be surprised.
The second season got a much higher rating on rotten tomatoes than the first season.
I agree that the 2nd season is better, but you have to watch both seasons or you won't understand what is happening.
Judith Light and Bette Midler as women in their 70s with complex sex lives add some real spice to the show to offset the Gen Z actors.
It isn't VEEP, but it is a close contender. Unlike VEEP the characters are not purely motivated by the contest. They do have genuine internal struggles about their message.
It will keep you smiling, so I recommend you watch it. A welcome diversion from our real life comedy-drama.
