I liked him better when he was paired with Dan Patrick on ESPN. Those were the good ol' days and that was where he really made his mark. He really should go back into doing sports instead of making enemies as a staunch left-wing political commentator. From a PR standpoint, it's the right thing for MSNBC to do.
it was not MSNBC that drove this expulsion--
Comcast wanted Olbermann out--he has had negative things to say about Comcast in the past and he would not keep his mouth off what Comcast will be doing in the future--
they wanted to silence that point of view
they have kept him under contract which means he will not be able to take work with any other network --tv/cable/radio--while they are paying his salary and his contract has two more years to run--
don't know if he can do op-ed writing pieces but they won't let him have a "bully pulpit" to challenge what they are planning to do to restrict the bandwidth that cable channels operate under in competition with some sites like Netflix which require lots of bandwidth to deliver movies to subscribers--and which is in direct competition with cable companies who also deliver movies to subscribers...
Comcast should never have been allowed to buy NBC--too many ways to restrict "news" and turn "free speech" into a pulpit for restricted POV of its parent company but if Rupert Murdock gets away with what he does at Fox News under exercising "free speech" then it was highly unlikely that FCC would say no to Comcast--one of the most powerful media congloms in the world...
