It appears that Jay Leno is not drawing the numbers the local affiliates want for the 11/10PM local news. The affiliates are getting upset and some are threatening to pre empt Leno. NBC is apparently toying with the idea of moving Jay to a 11:30 to 12:00 slot and moving Conan to 12. That would probably make Conan unhappy as nobody in the eastern time zone is going to stay up until 1 AM to watch him. What do you think should be done with Leno?
I went ahead and voted to move him back; however, that was more of a toss-up. Don't really have an opinion here.
I think all those nighttime shows suck!!! Of all of them! Jay was the only one on the night circuit I could stand. However, those types of shows died with Carson.
I remember when late-afternoons had success with "Mike Douglas", "Merv Griffin" and "Dick Cavett". All these men had very different personalities but they all pretty much fit the same format: A variety ~ and I do mean VARIETY! ~ of guests/entertainment, and all of them gathered one at a time out front with the host. Sometimes there was interesting camaraderie, other times just interesting, Period. THIS, is what Leno needed to do with his new time slot.
I have never been able to stand Conan like I've said before. Fire him.
I don't watch Leno at 10p.m., don't even remember he's on! I miss watching his monologue and "Jay Walking", etc. before I went to bed. Very rarely watched any guest. NBC made a big boo-boo.
This is reminiscent of the Humpty Dumpty fairy tale, I don't think they will be able to put Humpty back together again
This all started when Conan's contract renewal was coming up and he had been promised the 11:30 slot so that he would not leave NBC. However... Leno's show in that slot was drawing the highest ratings for all the late night talk shows. So in order to keep Conan, NBC in all its wisdom decided to trash their number one late night Leno show and give it to Conan. And in order to do that they threw Leno a pathetic bone giving him a reduced format at 10PM. They thought they would get a win-win situation by no longer having to produce an expensive scripted show for that 10PM slot. Although as most people perceived, the Leno 10PM show was an abysmal failure against scripted shows in that slot on other networks.
And Conan just doesn't have the stuff to carry the 11:30 show. He has lost over half of Leno's audience and ratings. What an enormous CF!! So now NBC in its "wisdom" proposes giving each of these guys a fraction of the former mega successful time slot. What a disaster that would be. I believe that because of NBC's massive blundering of this total mess that both talents are now damaged goods and they should both be let go. So NBC, admit that you carried out one of the biggest blunders in network TV history and you destroyed your successful brand - You can't get it back.
Let both Leno and Conan go and move the bright talent Jimmy Fallon into the 11:30 - 12:30 slot. He's great and has an entertaining and interesting show. Let him build from ground up what NBC has destroyed.
