I'd be grateful to anyone who could recommend to me an exceptional auto mechanic in the Tyler area (I'm in Lindale). Everybody has a story about bad mechanics who were either crooks or just poor at diagnosing problems. I've only been to one mechanic since moving here and let's just say I'm going elsewhere this time.

We've got something funny going on with our family car- Hyundai Santa Fe- and my gut tells me it is electrical and not your typical problem. A little online research showed others with similar symptoms have had a lot of grief paying to get things replaced which ended up to be expensive and of no consequence. The dealership might be a safe option, but I'd rather find an independent garage if possible.

Thanks in advance.

I personally have found the dealership service department to be fairly priced, they get the work done right, and they use factory parts. Granted, this has all been on newer model vehicles. All of my older stuff I would take to an independent, but I haven't had need for that in a long time.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I ended up going to a dealer, AutoNation Hyundai, and the service was great. Turned out the problem was caused by a faulty valve seal which Hyundai was aware of so it got repaired at no cost.

Sorry - just saw this but for general auto repair I have had several good experiences with Robertson Automotive on Palace Avenue downtown.
