Longtime lurker who needs some help. Has anyone in NJ been denied benefits at their one year recertification due to the fact they have a part time job? I am an unemployed teacher who came up on one year on unemployment. During the year I did some substitute teaching and earned enough to open a new claim - shouldn't be a problem because the amount on the new claim is similar to what I was getting. But now they are saying I am denied benefits because I can continue to substitute in September (School EE Rule). Meanwhile I was in the middle of Tier 2 and still had a balance. I called and they said they thought I should be getting benefits and would put it through again, but I just thought I would gather some info from all of you great folks who have really helped me get through this tough year, in case it still doesn't go through and I need to formulate an appeal letter. Also if I am being denied benefits, shouldn't I go back on Tier 2? What happens to the Tier balances when someone goes on a new claim? Can they just cut me off? I have not worked full time since June 2009.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I can't seem to get an answer from the call center. I guess I will write an appeal.
