Question: if a person has gone through the first 26 weeks of UI benefits, what do they need to do, to start collecting Tier 1? Are they contacted by their state UI office, when their 26 weeks are about to run out? Or does the claimant have to contact the UI office instead? If they do, how soon should the claimant contact the UI office, before their 26 weeks runs out?

Or, do the Tier 1 benefits automatically kick-in, without the claimant having to do anything, or without the UI office contacting the claimant at all? I live in the state of MA.

you dont have to do anything. The extensions are automaticaly filed for you. There should be no delay either. Meaning that you will still claim two weeks from the last claim date you had.

So as I understand it, I don't need to do anything except claim benefits every week as usual, when my 26 weeks of benefits run out? Also, do I get the same weekly dollar amount on EUC and EB, as I do during the regular 26 weeks of benefits?

Yes, you get the same benefit amount. You should get a statement showing you moving to tier 1 and the tier balance.

Unless you happen to live in Wa state where they do a hardcopy application which took up to 4 weeks to approve.

Okay, I know they say you don't need to do anything, but I live in MA and I had to call to get put on. But I called right away and there was no gap in benefits. I live in MA and I know how bad their UI system is.

Artwomyn, PLEASE call to make sure you get put on Tier1!

This is another example of how procedures can vary from state to state -- which is why it's always a good idea to check your particular state's UI website for details about administration of UI benefits or get firsthand experience from someone who is actually experienced in your state's process.
