I posted this on another thread, but thought it would be best to start up another thread.
Currently on IL unemployment (initial 2 mos.) - So if I take a temp to hire job, then let's say they decide after X amount of time, they don't want to hire me. Can I re-open the old claim? As for those X months I would have been working for the temp agency.
I called IDES and they said I would have to file an ADDITIONAL claim. Not sure if I believe them as I have gotten different stories from two different people there.
When I start the temp job, she said I should certify for benefits, then enter in my amount earned from the temp job. I only have to do that once. Then do not have to certify again.
Not sure if I believe them after reading this thread. .. sounds like I may want to re-open the old claim (if this scenario indeed happens).
BUT, if I file an addional claim instead of re-opening my claim from the Sept lay off job - How long would I have to be working at the temp to hire to claim an unemployment benefit from that job as I would be getting a W-2 from the staffing agency?
I am so confused, and the IDES employees all talk in government-ese... Thanks!
This may never happen if a get a temp to hire, they may actually like me and want to keep me on. It has happened 2x before, but I being prepared for the worst...
Look, it's all in the timing and where your new earnings fall. Based on that, Illinois determines new claim eligibility depending on when you file to reopen benefits. You are not the one who decides if you get a new claim.
Just call Illinois to reopen your claim when your temp job ends. Illinois will test your earnings history for new claim eligibility. It will or will not open a new claim. If your earnings don't qualify for a new claim, you continue on the old one.
Don't worry about who is being charged for your benefits. It is not relevant and does not concern you. Some employers find themselves being charged for employees off their payrolls for 15 months. That employee has since got other jobs and been laid off again. If those new earnings don't qualify for benefits, the old employer is charged. This not your concern.
