Okay, so first off, thanks for readin' and my apologies if this is in the wrong forum.
I jsut found out I'll be laid off soon -- next month or early next year.
I was wondering whether I should take my $9K in life savings (sniff, sniff) and just go somewhere to learn...I dunno -- computer programming and then data science??
I'm 44 and no formal qualifications (not even a college degree) but used to be really good at learning (taught myself German to an intermediate level of proficiency such that my professors [more than one so yes there's a "second opinion" here] were impressed when I finally took formal classes in the language) so...anyway, whaddya think? (Like, what could go wrong, right? LOL)
I was thinking of relocating somewhere "cheap" (or at least "affordable") and living off the $9K until I've gained enough newfound expertise in something in-demand to try my luck in the job market again...maybe I'll even go overseas for a few months (any recommendations??)....
Thanks -- that would seem to be the best bet! It's just that I was hoping to avoid the financial treadmill of constantly working and commuting with no time or energy left (hey, I'm 44) for study (we're talking technical stuff like coding and data science, remember) -- with little if any money saved after expenses anyway, for all that -- by totally focusing my efforts for six months on learning...being in a homeless shelter (hence my UserName) is not conducive to study or even work for many reasons....
