Jobless claims rise more than expected - Yahoo! Finance (http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Jobless-claims-rise-more-than-rb-2297336641.html?x=0&sec=topStories&pos=main&asset= &ccode= - broken link)

Quote:
Claims increased 15,000 between the May and June survey periods, implying little or no gains in nonfarm payrolls this month after a modest 54,000 increase in May.
The data is the latest in a series to underscore the weakness in the economy, which has persisted through the second quarter.

Here we go again with the "worse than expected" narrative. 11 weeks above 400K now - 2 more and we'll have a full quarter.

Yeah and Bernanke was quoted in an article that he is puzzled as to why the economy is struggling. Gee, I guess we need a rocket scientist to help Ben out, huh? DUH!

Here's the article:

My Way News - Economic trouble puzzles Fed chief, too

Quote:
"We don't have a precise read on why this slower pace of growth is persisting," Bernanke said. He said the weak housing market and problems in the banking system might be "more persistent than we thought."
Wow, that really makes me want to run out and buy a house!

I guess those economic models they use still need a tweak or 2...

This describes one component of the problem - not the only one - but the mindset of lack of 'community' is a real part of it.

With executive pay, rich pull away from rest of America - The Washington Post

If corporate America is not motivated to add living wage jobs - and they aren't due to record earnings and cash stash - things won't change.

This administration just doesn't get it! The founding fathers are probably rolling right now. They say the misery index is the highest it has been since the 80's. How true - these times we are living are so depressing. I don't care which party has the best candidate for this, but, someone needs to step out of the p.c. world and do something about this downward spiral this country is heading in. It's like watching a major catastrophe happen in slow motion

Excellent article though very hard to read. Drastic times call for drastic changes! Government needs and overhaul, perhaps change to a unicameral form of government to reduce politicians, cost, and promote transparency. Increasing taxation on the rich and reducing loopholes (write-offs). However no change will occur until the American Citizen awakens and realizes what is being taken from them, freedom and the pursuit of happiness. Time to end being a politician from being a profession to one of part time steward. Time to move from a capitalistic self serving society to one more geared to a socialistic serving society accountable to the people!

Without drastic change and public involvement, this depression will continue until WWIII puts an end to it. Think this is not real, checkout the Great Depression and trends that lead up to it, occurred during it and how WWII ended it...

Not to worry. In the continuing quest to dumb down the American public, NASA has been cut back and we will no longer be producing rocket scientists.

Today's report was relatively good at 405K. I'm not sure if the holiday was a factor - maybe the "seasonal adjustments" take that into account...
