Hello everyone,

I am hoping to get some advice; I would appreciate your help:

I would love to visit the UK in August, and spend some quality time with my husband, and brush up my knowledge about England and its language. I am very excited, but so far I could not figure out which places to visit. The place we are looking for should be fairly small, with nice sea views, hilly streets, and mild weather ( less rain, and more sunshine). To have a city nearby would be a plus ( I may attend some courses there ). We are not much into partying, and pubs. Which part of the UK would sound like this? I am open to all opinions.

Thank you very much.

Judy from Hungary

I think the south west sounds ideal for you, maybe Devon or Cornwall.

Personally I would choose the Lake District or Yorkshire, but that may be a little cold and wet for you.

I was going to suggest either Cornwall or Kent. But Wales is lovely, too!

I would suggest one of the towns on the Devon coast - Dawlish, Sidmouth, Exmouth, maybe Teignmouth. Close enough to Exeter that you could do some university level stuff (very good Uni) or even South Devon Tech in Paignton might be appropriate, depending on what kind of courses you're looking for.

All of those are pretty small towns and have very nice views. (in fact, the train ride from London is really pretty). From memory I know that Dawlish has a few hills, as does Exmouth. Torquay might even be good for (there's already a thread about that place elsewhere in this forum.)

Hope that helps!

Thanks for your opinions. I have started to check out those lovely sea towns online, and I found a place, Kingsbridge online. It has sparked my interest. Does anybody have some info about this town? I believe that your opinions are more valuable than the information listed online Thanks again.

I live in Sussex, on the South Coast. I suggest Brighton - 1 hr from London by train, beach and wonderful Palace called the Pavillion, rent a car and one day go East along over world famous Beachy Head to Eastbourne, then inland to Pevensey castle, Battle ( Where 1066 batlle of hastings took place) to Bodiam Castle fairy tale like. The next day go West to Arundel Castle , so beautiful and Arundel village lots Antique shops, plus great walks...and drive via stuuning countryside to Petworth House, wonderful old country house with huge grouns full of deer. Stop off at countryside Pubs fro taste of real home made English food and English real Ale!
