I find it sadly ironic that there is such sectarian violence, alot of it based on religion. Catholicism and Protestantism are both Christian denominations. Christianity is based on the teachings of Christ. Jesus Christ teaches that we should not commit murder, we should love one another, and that we are all children of the most high God. All of these teachings, and you have this sectarian violence, all which goes against what Christ taught. That is the sad irony of it all.
We have many Irish Immigrants here, and they don't fight with one another, as they are TOO busy working, and making a living, to worry about who is a Mick, or a Prod. Once they arrive in Canada, they soon see that they are "just another new comer to Canada " with no special treatment expected, or given.
My point ? Having a good job, and a good future for your kids, is MUCH more important than any religious differences, here in Canada. And of course, our Police are NOT going to stand there and be attacked, THEY fight back and make sure that no body gets a free kick. If that riot had been in Canada, the injuries would have been to the rioters, not the Police.
People come to Canada, to get away from religious nonsense, and here they are free to be themselves, and CONTRIBUTE to our country, not sit at home and collect benefits. That is why we "select our Immigrants carefully, with an eye to education, and practical working experience ". About 70 percent of our Immigrants hold a 4 year University degree, BEFORE they get here.
They see how the Canadians get along, and how their kids get along at school, and they usually "get it " soon enough.

the riots were in an exclusivley loyalist ( protestant - british ) area , wasnt really sectarian , just anti police yobbery , not that serious either tbh
always find it amusing when stories like this get labeled as irish problems , northern ireland is ( at least currently ) british regardless of whether 45% of the population claim allegiance to another nation , the bottom line is that this is a british security problem , got nothing to do with the irish state

I agree. Anyway, the Irish State has other problems to deal with ....
