Does anyone know how I would go about getting British citizenship? Both my parents are full fledged Britons but I was born in the US and have a US Passport. Everyone I have talked to has said that I most definately can get citizenship since both my parents are English but I am not quite sure where to start.

Any advice will be appreciated. I will be in the UK for most of July if it makes it easier to do it in person.

Thanks.

You could try looking at the Home Office Border and Immigration website.

Border & Immigration Agency | Border and Immigration Agency

Hope this helps.

I have several friends with dual citizenship. Check out the British Consulate or Embassy nearest to you or the US Immigration office in D.C.

They are likeliest place to start.

You absolutely can! My husband and I just did this with our son who just turned 8. My husband is English, I am American, our son was born in the US. We sent off the British passport forms and received his passport within 3 weeks. We were shocked by how quickly we received it. So he is now considered not only American but also a British citizen. Not that he cares now, but we figured he would thank us when he is older.

Yes, a good confirmation.

Did you get the forms from the Consul?

I have a friend who was in your same position, however her Mother was US born, and her father British. All she did to gain dual citizenship was to stay with her father and figure it out in Britain. I believe that it is easier to be there while going through the process than it is to do it while in the US!

You can easily get a British Passport. You can either send the correct documents to your nearest British Consulate, or apply in person at a Passport Office in the UK (of course, bringing along the correct documents.) I have done it both ways for my kids. I am American, and my wife is Scottish. We have four kids, and they have both U.S. and UK passports.

Over the years, it's been quite a chore keeping up with two sets of passports for the family.

Funny story--I was recently in London with my wife and oldest son to get a new Green card for my wife. (That's a story in itself, as she held one years ago, but we had to reapply for various reasons I won't go into here.) Anyway we were in London along with my oldest son. We were sitting in a restaurant, just the three of us. My wife went into her bag to get her purse and pay for the meal. She pulled out about a dozen passports from two countries. Our server's jaw dropped open. She must have thought we were dealing in dodgy passports or something.

Is there an age limit for a US child born to British parents to obtain a UK passport?
