When a woman opened her suitcase after returning from Austrailia she saw in a shoe what she thought was a fake snake put in there for a joke... then saw it move.. What I want to know is do suitcases also go through the same type of scanners that hand luggage go through... and if so how wasnt this snake spotted.. https://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/news/g...tland-15881722

I saw this on my local news. They said that the snake had gone dormant, so didn't pick up on the scan. Don't know how true that is. . .
I think I would have had a heart attack if I found a snake.
I do know lots of things get through customs though. They'll take away your bottle of water but I don't know why I flew from the UK to USA with a half eaten banana in my purse or some of the other food that got through that I didn't even know I had.
Yet, ONE time I tried to smuggle a plant into the country. Hid it in my bra in the suitcase.
Caught! Is it legal to bring bananas and other food from one country to another? I thought maybe there was an issue with bugs or vermin, especially on a tropical fruit like a banana.

I would too and wouldnt go near Australia ever haha. I also got a pull for taking a sprig of heather to the US.....
could well have been but I thought they had heat sensors but maybe for something else..
Snakes don't produce any body heat.
Airport X-ray picks up metal. That's why plastic guns are an issue. There are explosive sniffing devises. There are drug sniffing dogs. Snakes aren't metal, nor are they explosive, nor are they narcotics. The skeleton should have shown up on X-ray, but I guess it didn't look like a weapon.
The skeleton should have provoked further investigation, since live animals are a violation, but someone dropped the ball. For all I know, the baggage check is automated and the snake didn't trigger any alarms.
People put too much faith in airport security screenings.
In the US the TSA failure is about 95%. To be perfectly clear, TSA agents, their equipment and their processes fail to detect banned items in carry-on luggage in almost every instance.
I don't have stats for UK, but wonder if the are similar there.
