I was just thinking that this is going to be the first Christmas without Queen Elizabeth in roughly 70 years, and it makes me feel very sad. I guess Charles will give the Christmas message this year. The thought does not thrill me.

ETA: From 1957.

The Monarch, gives a speech to the nation and commonwealth every Christmas at 3pm, and this year it will be the King's speech, and will take some adjusting to.

I do miss the Queen, however she had a long and wonderful life, and the country must move on, and in terms of the future, William and Kate, and there three children are very popular and a fantastic legacy.

Yes, no one can ever replace her majesty, but I sure wish Princess Anne was the one taking over the job instead of Charles.

I'm sure the King will give a worthwhile speech. He's a man for this age in thinking and temperament. I predict he'll be doing a lot to streamline the monarchy in years to come

He's off to a flying start.
An Aberdeen firm has just completed part 1 of a 2 part survey to assess the viability of using geothermal energy to power the Balmoral estate.

If you are in the U.S., check your local PBS station listings for this programme (see below). It will air in my area on Christmas Eve. Just in time for my grieving heart!

When The Queen Spoke to the Nation
- A look back at the Queen’s annual Christmas Day messages, and the handful of momentous occasions when the Queen made rare special addresses and spoke directly to the nation at times of crisis, commemoration and celebration.

Probably so, but I have a long memory. I cannot forget things that happened not all that long ago. My opinion of Charles changed forever with those revelations. I hope he does a wonderful job, but I do not feel enthusiastic about him at all.
