Doctors today are calling for a ban on diesel cars in London, claiming that it costs many thousands of lives each year.
What a brilliant idea. I for one have never bought into the diesel revolution. I hate the stuff and I resent treading it into the car when I'm on a garage forecourt. You soon know - your foot slips off the pedals when you drive off.
President of the AA says it's impractical to implement. Why? Just stop making them now and the existing ones will disappear naturally over time.
And busses, but then that's probably where most of the pollution is coming from, with them running all day long, and much of the time, with very few passengers.
Here's an idea; Just ban taxis and busses. Problem solved, plus you'll get fewer pedestrians and cyclists getting run over.
Neither of the two posters immediately above seem the most imaginative types.
It's only a matter of time, and getting shorter, before buses and taxis are all electrically powered.
When the taxi driver realizes s/he can save $100,00 plus, in fuel costs over the life of the vehicle........
But how will high energy tax governments replace the lost fuel tax revenue, it's 17% of budget in the UK and just 1% in the US. Hard choices ahead.....

If taxis and buses were banned, (farcical really), you'd have MORE pedestrians, maybe not getting run over, but if there were no buses or taxis, the subway system in London couldn't cope with all the new passengers.

I saw a snooty article on the BBC website not two years back sniffing at American backwardness for its failure to adopt diesel in passenger cars as compared to the larger percentage in Britain. Oh I wish I could email that journalist now.

Just watching BBC World News and they're running a story about air pollution in China. At the same time WaPo has a top center story on it's website about air pollution in London/Europe due to excessive diesel use. Also worth noting that it was a small US lab that uncovered the VW diesel scam.
