One cannot compare the United States to the UK on a matter like this.

Some areas of the US are permissive, and nudity (or at least female toplessness) is legal, such as in New York City, while in some county in a bible belt state, as distant from New York as London is from Morocco, breast feeding in public may be frowned upon.

Of course something like broadcast television has to make a compromise with regard to their diverse audience. How to titilliate their audience while keeping offense to the prudish minority at a minimum. Thus one infrequently sees nudity on broadcast television apart from buttocks or quick movement of a breast. Premium cable is another matter. Porn in the US is 'no holds barred'. I was going to make a pun on theat last one, but thought better of it. PM me for details :-)

That answers the question then. The UK overall doesn't have to cater to a prudish minority, so in regards to nudity, the UK is more like Europe. Not exactly like Europe, but closer than the US is.

Not sure I agree there. We definitely have more in common with the Americans when it comes to nuditiy.

Take Speedos, for example, their market is mainly tailored to Athletic Swimmers rather than Beach goers.

Speedos and board shorts aren't nudity.

I just came back from Bay to Breakers where people were running through the streets of San Francisco completely naked. Not sure Americans are as prudish about nudity as some people in Europe want to think.

European nudity has been more pronounced for decades than N. American nudity but that is not to say people walk around everywhere nude.

There are enclaves of accepted nudity everywhere on the planet. Dominican Rep. Germany, France, even the west coast of Vancouver Island (Tofino) has some accepted nudity.

Not uncommon to witness nudity in Scandinavian countries in the grips of winter after a hot sauna and quick romp in the snow.

Accepted nudity is everywhere in small clusters and areas.

That's San Francisco though and they did try to ban people from running nude...just gave up I suppose LOL

Europe is more liberal, in general, but it's a patchwork like the US and even Canada. People don't bat an eye here in Vancouver is someones says they go to Wreck Beach ( largest nude beach in North America ) or says they have gone..most have at least once is my guess. Say that in Calgary, my feeling is you will get raised eyebrows...but I can't say for sure.

What I do know is that depending on the country, nudity in Europe has boundaries. For instance, in Germany and The Netherlands, you will see nude sunbathing sections in public city urban parks. I found this out years ago while running through a park in Amsterdam with a friend

However, in France, a country that boasts how socially liberal they are ( they aren't really ) there aren't any parks that allow this. Tons of beaches, but they have those in other European countries as well. There is a nude bicycle protest held around the world, and London UK gets hundreds upon hundreds of participants, Paris...a few and the nude ones got arrested.

When the wall came down, there was even some clashes about nudity on beaches in Germany. East Germans were more likely to be nude.

So like I said, a patchwork.

What you do see in some of Europe is less fear of nudity in advertising.

What a strange thread question. Is the UK not part of Europe?

How about, "When it comes to nudity is Germany more like the UK or Europe?"

Depends on which part of Germany no?

Kiez (Reepetbahn) Hamburg is surely less uptight about public nudity than say Kloster Weltenburg.

That said it is a strange question, probably based in the erroneous belief that European media (which is much more nudity friendly) is representative of Europe in general.

That all said I've seen far more live nude entertainment venues in the US than Europe. It's kind of a topsy-turvy world.
