Police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann are to carry out searches at a reservoir in Portugal.

A search of the Arade dam will begin on Tuesday, 50km from where the toddler went missing in Praia da Luz in 2007.

Christian Brueckner, 45, was made a formal suspect, or an "arguido", by Portuguese prosecutors in 2022.

The search was requested by German police as the area was visited by Brueckner when Madeleine, then three years old, disappeared.

I can only hope that the police make further breakthroughs and manage to gather more evidence in order to secure a conviction in respect of Brueckner.

I was surprised to hear a profiler talk about her belief that the parents are involved in the child's disappearance. I had never suspected them at all.

This was said years ago .. but surely no one would go to these depths.. and for what.. they have money.. I remember thinking how cold the couple seemed to be on tv just after her disappearance then placing another child in a creche there ..I wouldnt have let any of my children out of my sight after an abduction of a child... Poor wee girl dread to think what she might have gone through...

This profiler I heard, her theory, is that it was covered up by parents so to keep their status, money, etc. I agree with you the parents always seemed stiff/flat. And yes, why leave other kids after such a tragedy.

I think being "cold" it's just the way some people act in shock and grief.
They are grieving no less than those who act hysterical.
People who grief quietly usually suffer longer.

Sadly it's been so long that I would be surprised if they ever found her body, I hope that justice prevails some day though.

You could be right.. we hopefully will never know how we would cope in such a situation...

I’m still hoping that she’s alive somewhere, though that seems highly unlikely at this point.
