Giving out MBE's to cyclists?

Not that MBE's and any other awards "bestowed" by royalty has ever had any real significance.

While we are talking about awards, why has Bruce Forsyth not been knighted?

I'd rather a cyclist got and MBE rather than Bruce Forsyth get knighted!

He should have been pensioned off years ago with his weak jokes and dithering manner!

Paid for mainly by the British TV licence payers. Should you have an opinion if you don't pay up?

National treasure indeed. A doddery old fool who has made lots of money from TV and should have retired from the proceeds years ago! He was okay in his younger days but think he's a bit passed it now

So now that all the British gold medal winners at the 2008 Olympic Games have been given honours will that mean that ALL future British Olympic gold medallists will be honoured? Or is it intended to be an incentive for British athletes to try that little bit harder at the London 2012 Olympics?

Or am I just being cynical?

One solution would be to have some sort of recognition award system for athletes only.

If we have to have MBEs and OBEs at all, save them for hard working people that have actually achieved or made a real difference to something important.

Even TV "stars" seem to get MBEs purely for doing the job they are employed to do!
