I'm not sure if this is the best forum for this, but probably?

I'm a 2nd year Geog student looking for some free software to screw around with on my downtime. Does that even exist? Or am I going to have to pay or go through my uni? I'm off for the summer so I'm not sure if that's possible until I'm technically a student again. I haven't taken any of the courses for it yet, but it could only help to familiarize myself now with some of the functions.

I would prefer if it could work on a Mac OS, but I can make it work otherwise.

Thanks.

Did you check with your school bookstore? Usually students can get ArcGIS that way.

Hi, I have only experience with commercial GIS yet, so I can't help you with these free ones:

GRASS GIS - Home
Welcome to the QGIS project!
SAGA - System for Automated Geoscientific Analyses

Thanks guys.

I'm not sure if I can get stuff from the library during the summer, but I'm not sure about that either so I will look in to it, and also the other links.
