Hi all,

Im in the process of getting my B-Comm in Hotel Management, I was wondering if anyone knows what the horizon and prospects looks like for this field in Vancouver? I love the city, and being in Calgary for school it would only be a short move over to Van. I have a ton of family there and know the city quite well. Can anyone shed some light if this degree has any success in landing a job in the Van city?

PS. I will graduate in 1.5 years, so the olympic boom will long be over!

Thanks for any info, anyone has.

No idea, but just keep skimming through go2hr.ca's website for opening positions, or just look up the job boards on the major hotel chain websites (Fairmont, Westin, Sheraton, Best Western, etc.).

My suggestion is to do some research on the demand and supply of Vancouver's hotels. It will be easy to find data regarding number of hotel rooms, number of vistors each year, and occupancy rate. Don't expect a one time event such as the Winter Olympic will bring about long term impact on the sector.

Absolutely, thats why I mentioned that I'd only be interested in the "real" hotel economy in Vancouver, it seems like there is decent growth with properties like the Shangri-La Vancouver and Fairmont Pacific Rim opening. But definitely this would be post olympic employment.
