I have Vermont Gas in Burlington and it is such a cheap, affordable, clean and abdundant way to heat. From what I read Vermont Gas is owned by Gaz Metro of Quebec and there is a pipeline from the TransCanada Pipeline that enters from Highgate and ends in Burlington.

There is such a abundant supply of natural gas in Canada and here in the U.S. While I understand it is costly to run the lines etc. I feel that if they did people would switch without hesitation. My Mom said in CT they ran a natural gas line down her road in and literally everyone on the street converted.

Price wise it is very stable and has actually been going down in price. Per million BTU's its a bargain compared to other fuels. More than half of what heating oil costs and actually not much more than what a cord of wood costs without the hassle of a stove/fireplace.

I am not sure why CNG (compressed natural gas) is not utilized here. It can easily be compressed and transported to tanks. It runs millions of cars in the world.

Also, perhaps the best reason to burn Natural Gas is knowing that your money is not going to Middle East oil and oil speculators.

Fracking - ProPublica

I am for using NG, but do not support poisoning our water supply if hydrofracking is needed to obtain it.

i believe propane also comes from NG (as well as from oil) so it's not any better. i think the biggest difference is that propane is made to be transported in trucks vs pipelines.

Compressed natural gas is at such high pressures generally, it's not quite as practical as propane.
