Just a hypothetical question for those of you who know about land law in Vermont. If a person inherits or is given raw land (farm land) but lives in another state, and is a dependent but not a minor (adult child full-time college student with no meaningful income) do they pay taxes on the property?

I know this is an odd scenario, but it might happen to a friend of mine. Does the state accumulate the property taxes in an account until the kid graduates and starts earning money or what?

Thanks in advance for your responses!

Someone will have to pay the taxes or you'll lose the land.

They better if they want to keep it.

Thanks for your responses. Perhaps it would be a different situation if they were a minor. I would imagine the parents would pay the taxes until the student was able to, or they could decide as a family to sell the land.
