I am new to Burlington and having come from a town where your taxes pay for trash collection, I need your advice with choosing a private trash collection service. I have called six different companies that have quoted different rates from $41.60 to $36.45 a month. I don't know if going with the cheapest will get the best service or vice versa. Any suggestions are welcome.

All of our neighbors who use services use Casella, but we haul to the dump. Casella does curbside, and our 'curb' is a quarter mile from the house...if I'm hauling a quarter mile, may as well take it right into town lol. Plus its cheaper (I will say it's possible that they would come to the house, but it would probably be a lot more money...I never looked into it much further than the base monthly price).

When I rented in S. Burlington, the lease stated that we had to hire a trash hauler. We went with Clean Green because they were the cheapest. We also had our trash picked up every other week.

If you plan on doing recycling, Casella is probably the best. They have a process that separate recyclables from trash. That might make them cost more, but that part is worth it.

I have used Casella in StJ, but I rent the dumpsters for my apartments. So the pricing is different. The company I used to work for had Casella (in Montpelier) and that was where we had all-in-one trash (where they separated recyclables from trash).

Not sure if they do something different in Burlington.

At my home, we take trash to the dump. We live high at the top of a hill and at the end of a quarter mile driveway, so like tkln since we already have to put the trash in the car, we just keep driving and take it to the dump.

Myers $30 every two weeks. $48 every week and I live in the NEK. If you don't need every week, ask for every other. Most have it and it's cheaper.

Those prices seem on track.
