Report: Vermont is healthiest state in country | burlingtonfreepress.com | The Burlington Free Press

If there's one thing I learned it's that nothing is more important than your health.

What do you have to say about that, "Mr.-When-I-was-a-Boy-Vermont-Was Wonderful"?

How about from those who have left Vermont for the the swanky life in Alabama,West Virginia, and other third world countries?

Victory is ours!

Yeah I saw that too. Congrats Vermonters, that's something to be proud of for sure!

How the hell it happened I have no idea-when I was in Vermont I got fat as hell. Going outside takes incredible motivation when your face literally hurts after a few minutes of incredible wind and cold.

We have been through this before. VT is often ranked #1 always in the top 5 in illegal drug use. How can VT be healthiest with all that illegal drug use? It is all about picking your measures and ignoring others. Big factor in the happy outcome is the small (almost)all white population helps avoid several diseases that are more prevalent in other populations. Also the study is heavily weighted to favor public health measures and VT does well on those. Not saying VT is unhealthy but I don't buy that it is #1.

Actually if you read the report the number one reason Vermont ranked so high is that the poulation is 96% caucasian and minorities suffer a higher rate of diseases. The number two reason was obeseity was higher in other states, Vermonters cannot afford to pay their taxes and buy food so they are thinner, call it a state sponsered weight watchers plan. Vermonters actually had a higher rate of alcoholism, they drink to try to forget how much taxes they have to pay and since a lot of them are unemployed they get to sit around the house and drink. How's that for a spin?

Its funny that the guys I grew up with that stayed and worked in Vermont after high school all look about ten years older the those of us who left. Years of hard manual labor will do that to you.

Wow, that's pretty awful. I don't know why I live here.
Doomers and Gloomers, that's good, I like that, the DGs, kind of sounds like a disease.

Means squat, merely a measure of how white ,as in lacking ghettoes VT is,
factor out that and VT would not be in top 10.

As in statistics 101.
