Seriously, they're making the game unplayable.

On offense, the players take a crazy long time to control the ball when it's passed to them. A simple ground pass and the receiving guy is knocking it way too hard, and the defence is able to bother the play. You can't pass in tight spaces as the guy won't control the ball well.

As usual, the fancy flicks and tricks don't mean anything. They keep on adding to this, yet it's always been extremely impractical to use them in game.

Running quickly makes the guy run sideways and not straight on as you sometimes would like.

On defence, it's like they've changed the controls again. Every year, I have to learn a system that doesn't actually improve your defence if you do. It's stupid. I remember 2007 defence was perfect. Now, I have to press like three buttons to do what one button would do before. They've made calling an extra defender awkward. Then, running on the ball, the defender doesn't lock on automatically to the ball...so, when the angle is weird, you don't know where the ball is going, and they get passed you.

Positioning of defenders is off. And it's hard to switch to the right guy to fix it, so you have guys just staring at the ball while it's rolling past.

PES circa 2005 remains the best soccer game ever made. Fifa 2009 comes close.

Why can't they get these games right? After 20 years you'd think they'd be way better than they are.

By far, the best Fifa game for ps2 is fifa 05.

Yes, you can trade players, and manage a club.

The easiest goal to score in fifa 05, as in most fifa games, is the one where you break down the wing, forward pass (triangle) to an oncoming player and simply tapping it in.

Though the latest fifas have improved the ai enough to make this a lot harder.

These days I cross into the box and try to get in with the header. If not, then rebound goals from long distance are possible.
