The price tag may seem like a no brainer, but the 18.4 inch1920x1080 laptop comes with a built in blu ray drive, GE9600 Nvidia graphics card, 512 dedicated RAM, 4GB RAM and a built in 320GB (which is surprisingly not that much)
In other words, this is like getting a PS3, Xbox, and HDTV for under $2000 - impressive.
Granted, I have a PS3 but Ive been wanting to divorce the clunky computer im typing on for a while
I'd say laptop. Esp since you already have a PS3, and you can play ROMs too on your comp. Get the 360 or wii when you havesome extra cash later on. I love my 1920x1080 screen. Whenever I use a lower resolution, I can not stand it...I don't know how people can stand everything being all big and ugly.
PS3s are fine and dandy and all, but it really boils down to this: will you REALLY use it?
Paying $500 just to play video games is not a very good investment IMO. Its not worth it. However it is worth it if you upgrade your drive to 500GB and put movies, music, photos and PSN games on it. That way you get the most out of your investment.
So if your thinking about getting a PS3, ask yourself if you will take advantage of the hardware. It twould be shame to ignore putting movies on such a dandy device... However, if you have an HDTV, then i can assure you you need to get your hands on one ASAP.
my dislike for the 360 goes far beyond money or amount of options. the quality of the product is severely lacking. i previously had a ps2 and loved it. the 360 is an inferior gaming system overall.
It's kind of like apples and oranges, no? I mean, I know they have similarities - but that would depend on what your using it for and what you want out of it? If you want it to replace your desktop and for computing, then obviously the laptop would be the ideal choice. You don't really need the blu-ray player (which I'm sure if a nice chunk of the cost) if you have a PS3 unless you want to watch movies on the go. Do you play PC games? If not, then the video card shouldn't be a selling point since you can get a less expensive card that can output HD video. All the other specs are pretty standard and Sony generally charges a premium for the brand.
If your looking just for gaming and some multimedia in your living room/bedroom, then the xbox might be the way to go. It's about $1500 cheaper for one thing (you can buy a new HDTV with the difference!), and can play games, stream media from your desktop to your TV through it, and stream movies via Netflix (with HD movies available sometime in the near future too).
Think of what your going to use it for and make sure your not paying for features you'll never use.
If you've got the money to burn on an $1800 laptop, why not get the 360 as well? After all, there are a plethora of games for the 360 that I enjoy playing... that are console specific. If you are trying to make a point for the 360, you are correct. In fact, any of the three consoles in this generation would be more cost effecient against a gaming laptop.
Well, Im going to start saving up for the laptop, which means that Ill be able to get it like in... April (10')
Its primary usage wont be for games, but it would nice to have the graphical horse power to watch blu ray on the go. Like I said, this is going to replace the computer I have right now.
And by time April 2010 rolls around, there will be an even better system that you will be pining over... while this one you've listed will only be $500.
Actually, there was one aspect of my laptop-to-be that was kind of out of date (I think it was the dedicated RAM?), but no biggie. It wasnt that big of a deal, it just basically meant that a gaming PC > this laptop, which is kind of expected. Its still pretty powerful though, and at 8.6 pounds!
