I want to make some videos for Youtube that deal with how to information on various topics. But I don't want to record myself in the videos talking. Instead I just want to use my voice in the videos and use text to highlight certain points of my videos. How do I do this? I have a digital camcorder that I normally use to record and upload videos and I also have Windows Movie Maker. Is this all I will need?

There are a number of "how to" videos on Youtube for this. Search "voiceover windows movie maker."

So 'voice over' is the main thing to look for?

You certainly don't want a camcorder for this. I would suggest adding a voiceover to a PowerPoint presentation and uploading to YouTube with Windows Movie Maker.

If you had a Mac, you could also make a podcast with images in GarageBand. I'm sure there's similar software for Windows, but I don't know what it is.

Here's an example of a video that's close to what I'am wanting to do with just using voice and text.

You should be able to do that completely in Windows Movie Maker.

I didn't look at the video but looking at the frame grab of the text something like that can be done in an image editor and then import the image into the video editor. If movie maker supports .png or .tiff with alapha transparency you can also overlay text images with no background over the video itself. Persoanlly I've always used my image editor for still text becsue it produced better results and more options.

Powerpoint is like a video editor itself in a sense but it is for assembling various media files and presenting them in an interactive format, it doesn't have anything to do with actually making a video you might use in Powerpoint. There is ways to convert powerpoint presentation to a video but you're better off just sticking with the video editor.

An audio file is cast; you can take that audio file from the video and just slap the audio file on a blank screen or really anything that will have an image.

You could possibly use the title features of Movie Maker to create the text pages, that is what they are 'title' pages with various possibilities.

Depending on the complexity of the text, a graphic program would work, import the image files into Movie Maker.

The voice, just record your voice in a nice quite room, really quite and watch your rustling etc, do some tests. If you have to, just record with your video camera, import it into Movie Maker and delete the video track, replace it with your 'text pages'...

There are a lot of ways it can be done.
