My family and I are considering relocating to richmond va area

Any good things to know in these areas?

Depends on your preferences. Do you like to be in the city center in the middle of it all, or do you prefer to be in the suburbs?

If you want to live in downtown, there is the Museum District, The Fan, Carytown and the Jackson Ward neighborhoods. This is where all of the extensive row houses and victorian style homes are located. This is where the younger generation likes to live because it's become a very "hip" place to live. There is a lot of beautiful architecture, historic monuments, and cool hidden shops and restaurants. This is a very walkable area, so one convenience you'd have is you wouldn't rely so much on your car to get around.

If you want to be in the suburbs, there a lot of different areas to choose from. You have the affluent west end (Glen Allen, Short Pump, Wyndham, Midlothian). A lot of nice houses, upper scale neighborhoods, great schools, shopping centers, etc.. The strongest schools that have received national recognition are in western Henrico County, Chesterfield County and Midlothian. The south side is more quiet and laid back, also more affordable. There has been a lot of growth recently in the housing market in that area as well. Also don't overlook Ashland which is just north of the city in Hanover County.. small town but very livable. Good info! I dont need to worry about school systems, but am really interested in an established quiet neighborhood, safe, low crime, not too far a drive to good restaurants and fun things to do! Thanx for the info!!!!
