Hello, I am considering moving to north beach with my son who is 5 yrs old. We are african american and wanted to know if there is a strong African american community? Not a deal breaker if not and also wanted to know if there are community events and or activities for children, for example like a boys & girls club, sports team, etc. Overall, excited about being part of the north beach community

Hi there - I live in the northern end of Calvert County in Owings, MD and am about 5 minutes away from the beaches. I'm also a black person that has been born and raised in the area. There isn't a huge population of African Americans but there is a sense of community as we're often forgotten down here :-). There are lots of community events throughout the county.. As a resident of North Beach, you receive free access to the town beach. There's also the Chesapeake Beach Waterpark and another beach, Brownie Beach. There are options for sports, My daughter plays travel soccer but she started with Parks and Recreation. They also have summer camps (precovid).. We don't lack for activities in the area if you're into being outdoors as this area is water oriented so lots of little beaches up and down the county and also great hiking trails. There's a nice little town at the very tip of Calvert County, Solomons, that is fun and good for kids.. I've included some links below for your reference..
