Hi,

We are relocating in 3 weeks to DC, my husband, daughter and I, and we still don't have a place to live. My husband got a job at Georgetown, so we are looking for a place that is not too far for him to commute. We are looking to buy a house eventually, but we need a place to rent for 4-6 months. Anyone knows a place that is nice, especially clean and safe, for around $2000? I have heard all kinds of scary stuff about some of the apartment complexes. Any advice is truly appreciated.

THANK YOU sooo much.

Georgetown operates the GUTS shuttle beween the campus and the Rosslyn Metro station (Blue and Orange Lines) and the Dupont Circle station (Red Line) all day long, and particualrly during rush hour. You can check out the schedules (and other info) here...

Georgetown University Transportation Shuttle (GUTS)

The shuttle is quick, convenient, and FREE. With that, you can pick a place to live pretty much anywhere and still be able to commute into Georgetown reasonably easily. $2K per month will get you quite satisfactory living space almost anywhere. The short-term thing could be a bit of a problem, as many places do want a 12-month commitment, but many don't.

I suggest looking in Craig's list for a short-term lease in a decent area.

The Palisades is a beautiful residential neighborhood, just above Georgetown. The public elementary school there is great- if that is a concern. We recently purchased a home in DC- and we loved the Palisades. I don't know about rentals...
